Authorization Testing
Unauthorized card testing on your account.
Testing Overview
Card testing, also known as auth testing, is a type of payment fraud in which criminals use stolen or randomly generated card numbers to determine whether the information is valid. They typically submit numerous low-dollar transactions, often between $4 and $10, through a payment link, checkout page, or online account. Card testing can involve many attempts in a short period, often using different cards, names, email addresses, or billing details. Velocity and Elavon have security controls in place to detect and address card testing quickly to help protect your payment account and reduce the risk of additional fraudulent activity.
Account Impact
Authorization testing can result in a temporary increase in transaction activity on your merchant account. Velocity will work closely with your team to identify the number of authorization attempts and determine whether any transactions require refunds to help prevent potential chargebacks. Depending on the activity, you may also notice additional deposits into your bank account related to transactions that were successfully authorized and settled. We will review the activity with you and provide clear guidance on any actions needed to reconcile and secure your account.
Resolution Process
As part of the resolution process, Velocity and Elavon will work together to deactivate the existing payment token within the backend system and issue a new secure token for the merchant account. This change may require an update to the payment link used by customers to submit payments, particularly when using the Converge Hosted Payment Page. Velocity will coordinate the necessary changes, provide updated information or links as needed, and work with your team to help ensure the transition is completed smoothly with minimal disruption to normal payment activity.
